In a move set to strengthen healthcare delivery in Malawi, Swiss-based non-profit organization Barakah Charity on Sunday donated a brand-new ambulance to the Islamic Health Association of Malawi (IHAM).
The donation, made during a handover ceremony held in Blantyre, underscores the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting Malawi’s health and education sectors.
Speaking during the event, Mohamad Ajami, Chief Executive Officer(CEO ) of Swiss Barakah Charity, said his organization is proud to be part of efforts aimed at improving access to quality healthcare in the country.
> “We are happy to deliver this ambulance after working with IHAM for a year and seeing firsthand the transport challenges they face. Our mission is to make a tangible difference in people’s lives, and this donation is part of that commitment,” said Ajami.
On his part, IHAM Executive Director, Hajj Dyton, expressed gratitude to the Swiss team for their generosity, describing the donation as a timely boost to their operations.
> “We conduct eye surgeries and other medical outreach programs across Malawi, but transport has always been a challenge since we only had one vehicle. This ambulance will help us reach more people, especially those in hard-to-reach areas,” said Dyton.
The new ambulance is expected to improve patient referrals and enable IHAM to respond swiftly to medical emergencies in remote communities.
Swiss Barakah Charity has been active across Africa and Asia, focusing on healthcare, education, and humanitarian aid—with Malawi now among the beneficiaries of its growing network of impact-driven projects.
