Renowned Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi has opened up about the emotional toll of responding to the countless pleas for assistance he receives from struggling Kenyans. What began as a movement to support vulnerable communities has grown into something deeply personal and, at times, overwhelming for the entertainer.
A Platform of Compassion
Eric Omondi, widely known for his comedy and social media influence, transformed his platform into a philanthropic initiative called Sisi Kwa Sisi — aimed at rallying support for people confronting hardship. Through this initiative, he highlights the stories of Kenyans in need and mobilizes crowdsourced support from audiences both locally and abroad.
The Weight of Thousands of Cries for Help
During a recent public appearance, Eric became visibly emotional as he spoke candidly about the burden of reading through the thousands of messages he receives daily. Many of these texts are from individuals and families in desperate situations — from mothers with ailing children to people struggling to survive.
Holding up his phone, Eric described his inbox as a “digital graveyard of pain”, filled with heartbreaking stories that keep him awake at night. While he strives to help as many people as possible, the sheer volume and intensity of these messages can be emotionally draining.
“My phone is filled with many things. Only God knows… women and children are dying,” he admitted, struggling to hold back tears. Eric explained that while he sometimes goes live to highlight specific cases, he cannot broadcast every story — both due to the emotional strain and to avoid overwhelming the public
Balancing Hope and Limitations
Eric acknowledges that the initiative is bigger than himself and considers it a responsibility he was entrusted with. However, he also admitted that he has limitations. Some requests require resources that are not immediately available, and he urged Kenyans to be patient as support is provided based on urgency and available funds.
Public Reaction
Many Kenyans have expressed admiration for Eric’s efforts and emotional transparency. Social media users praised him for his commitment to changing lives and for openly showing empathy for the pain of others.
His work has highlighted gaps in social support systems and offered hope where formal structures have sometimes failed.
An Ongoing Mission
Despite the emotional toll, Eric remains dedicated to helping Kenyans where he can. His efforts include raising funds for education, sponsoring school fees for needy students, and providing support for vulnerable individuals across the country.
Through Sisi Kwa Sisi, Eric continues to use his influence to make a tangible difference in the lives of those most in need.
