Second Vice-President Enock Chihana has reassured Malawians that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s administration is working diligently to tackle the pressing challenges affecting the nation, particularly food insecurity and fuel shortages.
Speaking on Sunday during a community engagement meeting at Rumphi Boma, Chihana—who also serves as President of the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD)—expressed gratitude to the people of Rumphi for their support of President Mutharika during the September 16 General Election.
“The government has already secured maize, which will soon begin arriving in the country. We are also working through relevant ministries to ensure adequate supplies of fertilizer and fuel. Addressing these issues remains our top priority,” said Chihana.
He acknowledged that while the challenges remain significant, the government has already begun implementing practical measures aimed at easing the hardships that many Malawians are facing.
Chihana further noted that although some districts, including Rumphi, were not explicitly mentioned in President Mutharika’s recent State of Disaster declaration, the government recognizes that hunger is widespread across many areas of the country—varying only in severity.
He assured the people that maize will be distributed to ADMARC depots nationwide to ensure accessibility for all communities.
Speaking on behalf of Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe, Sub-Traditional Authority Mwang’onga commended President Mutharika for appointing one of their own, Enock Chihana, as the Second Vice-President, describing it as a great honour for the people of Rumphi.
